Successful Go Live with East Metro Health Service
We are pleased to announce the successful go live of Code Focus at East Metropolitan Health Service, marking an important milestone in EMHS’s journey toward a fully centralised, digital Clinical Coding Management and Workflow System.
This go live represents more than the deployment of new technology. It reflects a strong partnership, a shared commitment to improving Health Information Management practices, and a clear vision for delivering greater visibility, consistency, and efficiency across clinical coding operations.
A Strong Foundation for Sustainable Improvement
Throughout the implementation, the EMHS and Data Agility teams worked closely to ensure the platform was configured to align with existing workflows while laying the groundwork for future optimisation. From early process mapping and configuration through to training and go live support, the focus was on ensuring a smooth transition for coders, auditors, and HIM leaders.
As Mark Woodard, Clinical Coding Project Manager at East Metropolitan Health Service, shared during the rollout:

This feedback reinforces our core design philosophy. Code Focus is not intended to disrupt effective practices, but to replace manual, spreadsheet-driven processes with a single, integrated platform that supports standardisation, transparency, and real-time insight.
Further reflecting on the early impact of the platform, Lindy Burwood, Coding Manager at EMHS, shared:

Enabling Immediate and Long-Term Value
With Code Focus now live, EMHS has established a centralised environment for managing clinical coding activity across services. Key workflows including coding allocation, query management, auditing, and reporting are now captured within a single episode summary, providing shared visibility across the HIM function.
In the immediate term, this enables clearer oversight of workload, progress, and bottlenecks. Over time, it creates the foundation for continuous improvement, more targeted education, and data-driven decision-making.
Looking ahead, EMHS is focused on leveraging the platform to:
- Further streamline coder task management across teams and campuses
- Enhance real-time reporting and performance visibility
- Simplify onboarding for both internal staff and external contract coders
- Reduce reliance on manual tracking and disconnected systems
